When traveling full-time, it’s the small things that make a difference. Here we’ve compiled a list of our top RV living tips including how to find reliable wifi on the road and the real Wal-Mart parking policy.
Free dump Stations
When searching for free dump stations on sanidumps.com, fairgrounds and recreational areas often don’t come up. Make sure to search directly for the fairgrounds and check the website for an available dump station. We also find free dump stations at soccer fields and recreational areas.
Raw Pet Food on the Road
On the road, it’s often hard to find raw pet food, especially Jaxon’s brand. Luckily, we discovered that most local pet stores will order if for us. Our raw frozen dog food, K9 Natural, is a Norweigian brand that uses free-range chickens and high quality ingredients at half the price of the US brands. Quita eats Primal’s brand frozen nuggets.
Living in an RV is like being on a permanent vacation, so it’s tempting to spend a lot of money. We ran into this problem right away because we wanted to try every new restaurant and activity we came across. This will put you on the fast track to going broke. Every day may feel like a vacation, but it’s not. This is just your life now and you have to live within a budget.
If you work from home like us, you need access to wifi. Even though we have the Verizon unlimited plan, it throttles us down after a certain amount of usage. To avoid this, we work a decent amount at coffee shops. This gets expensive at around $10 a day, so we started working from libraries and hotel lobbies. In Telluride, Colorado, we spent an entire month working from all of the different resort lobbies.
Walmart Parking Policy
Even if a Walmart has “no overnight parking” signs, ask a cart guy if they actually enforce this rule. The signs and cameras are very intimidating but most of the time, they will usually just put a note on your door to leave within 24 hours. This means that you get at lease one night! Despite the warning signs, we bounced around between 3 different Walmarts in Santa Clarita, CA, for an entire month.
