I was talking with a fellow traveler the other day about how much we miss CrossFit. Yes, we’re part of that annoying club that loves CrossFit. But its not really an option on the road.
Keeping a workout schedule while traveling is challenging because your environment constantly changes. To eliminate any stress, we created workouts that cover only the essentials and can be done anywhere – Cardio, flexibility and strength training.
2 yoga blocks
Lululemon yoga mat
2 levels of fitness bands
With such little space inside, we almost always workout outdoors.
I try to practice yoga 3 times a week. It doesn’t always happen, but that is the goal. This helps me maintain strong joints and stabilizer muscles which come in handy with our crazy hikes (I’d hate to fall off a mountain). My favorite yoga channel is Yoga with Adriene on YouTube.
Experts agree, that this kind of workout gives you the most bang for your buck. What is tabata? Short bursts of cardio or weight lifting at an intense rate with recovery in between sets. Here are some of my favorite combinations:
Here are some examples of routines we like to do, but there are tons of moves to choose from online. Each one is designed to hit most of the major muscle groups. Use the tabata app on your phone to program the routine. We exercise 1 min on, 15 sec off.
1 legged deadlift using a boulder (switch halfway)
shoulder press using bands
Standing chest press – wrap band around a tree and press out
We get a lot of cardio naturally through hiking and biking. If this isn’t the case for you, here is a tabata routine that will definitely get your heart racing!
Jumping jack squats
